Green Buying Tips
What we waste or throw away is directly related to what we bought in the first place. Here are some ways to reduce post-purchase waste.
- Avoid buying toxic products like pesticides. There are a lot of solustions that are less harmful to the environment. Our first tip is how to get rid of fruit flies without pesticide.
- Think about packaging before making purchasing decisions.
Those jugs of orange juice sure are handy, and they can be recycled, but think about how much energy it takes to make a big plastic jug and then to recycle it, as compared to a little cardboard frozen juice can (plus concentrate is much cheaper).
- Keep cloth bags in the car:
Get into the habit of grabbing the bag(s) before you go into the store. Some stores may give you a credit for using your own bag and others are now even beginning to charge if they must provide you with a paper or plastic bag!
